Last year I was in need of some honey and I noticed that someone in my neighbourhood was selling honey from their house. It was only a block away so I took the walk, rang the doorbell and an old man opened the door. We got into a conversation and it turned out he was a beekeeper of 90+ years old (I forgot his exact age). He was telling me about beekeeping in such a passionate way that I got very enthousiastic, moreover; the honey was delicious! This conversation combined with growing up as a son and grandson of biologyteachers really got me interested in trying beekeeping for a hobby.
A few months later I enrolled in a beekeeping course organised by the local beekeeping society wich I finished last week, september 2018. I bought my first hive and colony in June and then I really fell in love with these little creatures.
I’m not in it for the money, but for the honey. As with my vegetable garden, I hope to provide my family and (some) friends with what I harvest, feeling that what you make yourself always tastes better.
That’s my story, so far. And I hope to add to it for many years!
